Description
Onion roti is a simple and straightforward gluten-free roti that can be served for breakfast or dinner.
Combine the wheat flour, onions, coriander, green chillies, cumin seeds, ginger, ghee, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix well and knead until the dough is soft and smooth, adding enough water as needed. With the help of a little whole wheat flour, divide the dough into six equal portions and roll out each part of the dough into a 125 mm (5″) diameter circle. Cook on a non stick tava (griddle) over medium heat.
Using a small amount of oil, cook each roti until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
Besides being an eye-catching visual treat, this spicy onion roti is also packed with nutritional value and is low in calories. The antioxidant Quercetin found in onions is well-known for its heart-protective properties, and whole wheat flour is high in fiber, which aids in the maintenance of a healthy digestive system. As a bonus, coriander is incredibly nourishing! It is a good source of iron and folate, which are two nutrients that are essential for the production and maintenance of red blood cells in our bodies.
